Bubble cloud depth under a hurricane

چکیده
[1] The bubble cloud depth and its correlation with extreme winds are key elements of bubble‐mediated gas injection, which are critical to the determination of the global gas budgets. The characteristics of bubble cloud depth were examined frommeasurements collected during the passage of a category‐4 hurricane with winds up to 50 m s. The bubble cloud depth increases linearly with wind speed for winds less than 35 m s. Our findings are consistent with previous observations at low to moderate wind speeds. However, the rate of increase is reduced significantly at winds higher than 35 m s. Citation: Wang, D. W., H. W. Wijesekera, W. J. Teague, W. E. Rogers, and E. متن کاملExtracting Nonrigid Motion and 3D Structure of Hurricanes from Satellite Image Sequences without Correspondences
Image sequences capturing Hurricane Luis through meteorological satellites (GOES-8 and GOES-9) are used to estimate hurricane-top heights (structure) and hurricane winds (motion). This problem is diicult not only due to the absence of correspondences but also due to the lack of depth cues in the 2D hurricane images (scaled orthographic projection). In this paper, we present a structure and moti...
متن کاملStructure and Nonrigid Motion Analysis of Satellite Cloud Images
This paper proposes a new method for recovering nonrigid motion and structure of clouds under aane constraints using time-varying cloud images obtained from meteorological satellites. This problem is challenging not only due to the correspondence problem but also due to the lack of depth cues in the 2D cloud images (scaled orthographic projection). In this paper , aane motion is chosen as a sui...
متن کاملStability of cavitation structures in a thin liquid layer.
The inception and evolution of acoustic cavitation structures in thin liquid layers under different conditions and perturbations are investigated experimentally with high speed photography. The stability and characterization of cavitation structures are quantified by image analysis methods. It is found that cavitation structures (shape of bubble cloud and number of bubbles) are stable under una...
متن کاملAn Eulerian-Lagrangian Study of Cloud Dynamics near a Rigid Wall
Bubble cloud collapse is one of the most destructive forms of cavitation. However, numerical modeling of this phenomenon is challenging and involves strong bubble dynamics, bubble-bubble, and bubble-wall interactions. Here we consider an initially spherical cloud near a rigid wall and treat the cloud bubbly mixture as a continuum and the bubbles in the cloud as discrete singularities. These two...
